Your first visit will consist of a complete comprehensive interview with Dr. Terry or Dr. Shawn, a complete examination for cavities and periodontal diseases, and an oral cancer screening. We will take a full mouth panoramic radiograph (X-ray) and bite wing films as we see necessary for the complete diagnosis. Depending on your situation, we may take impressions for study models of your mouth so our doctors can have your mouth in their hands while they are deciding upon the best treatment options for you. If your dental needs are few, we may be able to provide a simple cleaning for you. Usually it works better if we schedule the cleaning after the consultation appointment. It may seem like the first visit to our office accomplishes little. On the contrary! We have begun to establish the first and most important element in our relationship: TRUST and FEELING GOOD ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE! If either of us -- you, the patient, or our office as the provider -- does not feel comfortable with any aspect of this experience, this is the time to find out so that we can help you find somewhere that you are at home. Without a doubt, over 85% of our first appointment experiences turn into the long term relationships that we both desire. It is our job to help you define your dental future. The Consultation Appointment follows closely after the Initial/Exam Visit. At this visit, you will meet with our doctors to discuss the possibilities for your dental treatment, their recommendations, and we will discover together what you feel is important to your dental health. Treatment plans, time restraints and requirements, as well as financial matters will be discussed for as long as it is necessary. After all, this is your treatment, we want you to fully understand any matters that concern you at this point, not after the treatment is complete. Once these visits are complete, we are ready to get started. We have found that everyone expects and appreciates the personal attention that these appointments provide, and it allows us time to decide and plan where you will be 20 years from now. Good planning is the key. We take these initial planning steps very seriously. If you are having an active problem -- pain, swelling, or just want a second opinion on a suggested procedure -- we will be happy to help you out of your dilemma and get you comfortable so we can talk sensibly about your treatment. Please use this e-mail form to request an appointment with us. We answer our mail several times a day; you should hear from us shortly. Or just give us a call at 618-544-2626.
